Finland. 5 euros 2012. Ice Hockey World Championship.

In 2012, the World Hockey Championship was first held in two countries - Sweden and Finland. To this event, on April 13, 2012, the Finnish Mint prepared a special bimetal coin worth 5 euro. In addition, numismatists and hockey fans will be happy with the colorful set with the official logo of the International Ice Hockey Federation. Blister (it is also available from April 13) featuring the mascot of the championship (birds from the game Angry Birds) came out with a circulation of 30 thousand pieces. It contains eight coins of all denominations as a coinage of Brilliant Uncirculated.

The World Ice Hockey Championship is an annual competition, organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) since 1920. Initially, the tournament was held within the framework of the Olympic Games (in 1920 within the framework of the summer games, in 1924 and 1928 together with winter games). Since 1930, the competition has become annual, with the exception of 1940-1946 due to World War II and 1980, 1984, 1988 due to the Winter Olympics. Until 1968, during the Olympics, the Olympic hockey tournament was also considered the World Cup.

The tradition of holding ice hockey world championships began in 1920 in Belgium, Finland became their venue six times: in 1965, 1974, 1982, 1991, 1997 and 2003. In 2011, the Finnish team won the game with Sweden in the finals of the world hockey championship in Slovakia.

Obverse: A hockey player is shown waiting for the throw of the puck. At the bottom of the coin is the face value of 5 EURO. In the left semicircle they engrave the inscription "SUOMI", on the right - "FINLAND".

Reverse: a puck is shown flying into the net of the gate. Around the edge of the coin, the inscription "HELSINKI • MM / VM • STOCKHOLM • 2012" will be embossed.
