25 cents 2014 22nd Shenandoah National Park

25 cents (quater) in 2014 from the series National Parks - 22nd National Park of Shenandoah, Virginia.

Obverse: In the center of the coin is a portrait of President George Washington to the left (shown in the restored version of the original portrait, used since 1932 on coin-kvarterah). Above the semicircular name of the issuing country: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, in the semicircle the value of the coin is written - QUARTER DOLLAR. To the left of the portrait is minted the word LIBERTY (FREEDOM), on the right in a few lines - IN GOD WE TRUST (WE BELIEVE IN GOD) and the letter of the mint.

Reverse: In the central part of the coin field there is an image of a tourist at one of several dozens of points of observation of the Blue Ridge mountain range and a panorama of the valley of the Shenandoah National Park that stretches below. Near the edge of the coin a semicircular inscription:
In the upper part - "SHENANDOAH" (Shenandoah);
In the bottom - to the left "VIRGINIA" (Virginia) and on the right "E PLURIBUS UNUM" (the motto of the USA - from many - uniform).
Also in the lower part is the year of coinage in the form of a horizontal inscription "2014".

The only state in the state of Virginia, Shenandoah National Park stretches along the narrow ridge of the Blue Ridge in Appalachia. On the ridge of these mountains in the meridian direction is the famous highway Skyline Drive. All 169 kilometers of the route are magnificent views with equipped observation platforms. The highest point of the reserve (1235 m) is the summit of Mount Hawksbill.
Before receiving the status of a national park in 1935, these lands were inhabited by settlers and used as agricultural lands. The Virginia State Administration forcibly purchased land from farmers and organized the resettlement of people. Until now, the remains of farms have been found on this terrain.
The vegetation of Shenandoah is typical for the lands of the mid-Atlantic coast. On the southern slopes of the mountains settled pine forests, on the northeast - oak and maple groves, forests of tsugi. There are 800 species of flowering plants, 60 species of ferns, there are hills covered with thickets of cacti. Among the 50 species of mammals, deer, red-haired lynx, raccoons, opossums, skunks, foxes prevail. In the forests of Shenandoai birds of more than 200 species nest, in the rivers there are 32 species of fish.
Its name was given to the reserve by the name of the Shenandoah River, which limits it to the west. The park is riddled with a lot of streams and picturesque waterfalls, especially attractive for tourists. During the Skylink Highway 75 observation platforms are equipped, from them dozens of hiking trails are laid in the depth of the park. There are roads for cyclists, horse routes are developed. It is believed that the panorama of the Blue Ridge is particularly magnificent in the autumn season.
