Obverse: In the center of the coin is a portrait of President George Washington to the left (shown in the restored version of the original portrait, used since 1932 on coin-kvarterah). Above the semicircular name of the issuing country: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, in the semicircle the value of the coin is written - QUARTER DOLLAR. To the left of the portrait is minted the word LIBERTY (FREEDOM), on the right in a few lines - IN GOD WE TRUST (WE BELIEVE IN GOD) and the letter of the mint.

Reverse: in the central part of the coin field, an image of Fort McHenry is captured, during the annual event held on its territory - the defender's day holiday. The sky above the fort depicts fireworks. Near the edge of the coin a semicircular inscription:
In the upper part - "FORT McHENRY" (Fort McHenry);
In the bottom - on the left "MARYLAND" (Maryland) and on the right "E PLURIBUS UNUM" (the motto of the USA - from many - uniform).
Also in the lower part is the year of coinage in the form of a horizontal inscription "2013".

Fort McHenry, located in Baltimore, one of the major cities on the east coast, was given the status of a national monument for the special role played in the war of 1812. In the September days of 1814, during the furious bombardment of British artillery, the fort survived and served as a defense of the Baltimore harbor from attack. It is this place that is considered the homeland of the US anthem.
A young lawyer and poet, Francis Scott Key, captured by the British during the war, watched the bombardment of the fort from a British ship. By the fortress, 1,800 volleys of rockets, bombs and shells were fired, but at dawn the American banner still reigned over it. Inspired by Ki on the same day, he wrote a poem "Starry Banner," which then went down to music. Later, in 1931, this work became the anthem of the United States.
Fort McHenry, defending Baltimore, was founded in the 18th century and rebuilt several times. The last reconstruction gave him the shape of a five-pointed star, surrounded by a trench. The fortress was named after statesman James McHenry. For the time of the Second World War this building became a hospital for the wounded returning from European battles.
Today, the territory of the national monument is a beautiful green park overlooking the bay, where visitors are shown patriotic films and historical reconstructions are shown, where a large number of people with a special sensation rises at the first sounds of the anthem. The historical banner of 1814 due to its dilapidation is now in the museum of American history. In September 1914, there was a grand celebration with a naval parade on the occasion of the centenary of writing the poem "Starry Banner."
