25 cents (quater) 2012 from the series National Parks - 12th National Historical Park Chaco, New Mexico.

Obverse: In the center of the coin is a portrait of President George Washington to the left (shown in the restored version of the original portrait, used since 1932 on coin-kvarterah). Above the semicircular name of the issuing country: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, in the semicircle the value of the coin is written - QUARTER DOLLAR. To the left of the portrait is minted the word LIBERTY (FREEDOM), on the right in a few lines - IN GOD WE TRUST (WE BELIEVE IN GOD) and the letter of the mint.

Reverse: In the central part of the coin field, images of two ceremonial structures of Indians called "kiva" are presented, which are part of the Chetro Ketl complex. The northern wall of this complex is on the right side of the coin. Near the edge of the coin a semicircular inscription:
In the upper part - "CHACO CULTURE" (Chaco Historical Park);
In the bottom - to the left "NEW MEXICO" (New Mexico) and on the right "E PLURIBUS UNUM" (the motto of the USA - from many - uniform).
Also in the lower part is the year of coinage in the form of a horizontal inscription "2012".

In the north-west of New Mexico in the Chaco Canyon are the ruins of an ancient city with the status of a historic park. This most important archeological complex of the United States is located on an area of 137.5 square kilometers.

In the IX - XII centuries, the canyon was the focus of the social life of the Pueblo (anasazi) Indians, their cultural, scientific and religious aspirations. Ancient builders have created monumental buildings with clear architecture - the largest in the history of pre-Columbian America. Among the buildings are allocated pueblos - towers in several floors with spacious internal premises. Around each tower there were settlements, in which there was not the slightest part of chaos, the location of buildings and roads was carefully designed and connected with astronomical and cult conditions.

In the twentieth century, large-scale studies of the canyon were carried out, discovering many mysteries and surprising facts. Thus, the roads in the ancient city were extremely straight lines, regardless of the terrain. According to some statements, these roads coincide with the trajectories of "astral travel" shamans. The connection of buildings with planetary cycles is also traced.

It is assumed that the Chacoans emigrated from the settlement during the prolonged drought of the 12th century, but even in the best of times the climate of the desert was difficult for people to live. In difficult conditions, the Indians were able to create a thriving city. Descendants of indigenous peoples still consider the land of Chaco special, divine.

Today, the picturesque ruins at the bottom of the Chaco Canyon are a world heritage on the UNESCO list. Since 1980, the settlement of the ancient Pueblo Indians has the status of a national historical park.
