Above the semicircular name of the issuing country: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, in the semicircle the value of the coin is written - QUARTER DOLLAR. To the left of the portrait is minted the word LIBERTY (FREEDOM), on the right in a few lines - IN GOD WE TRUST (WE BELIEVE IN GOD) and the letter of the mint.

Reverse: in the central part of the coin field, against the background of the Sangre de Cristo mountain and sand dunes, there is an image of a father and son playing on the river bank. Near the edge of the coin a semicircular inscription:
At the top - "GREAT SAND DUNES" (Great Sand Dunes);
In the lower - to the left "COLORADO" (Colorado) and to the right "E PLURIBUS UNUM" (the motto of the USA - from many - one).
Also in the lower part is the year of coinage in the form of a horizontal inscription "2014".

One of the popular places in Colorado is the Great Sand Dune National Park - Great Sand Dunes. It is in the district of San Luis and captures the valley of the Rio Grande, from the sand which formed the highest (up to 230 m) dunes in North America.
The territory of the reserve is located in the area of strong winds, which contribute to the formation of the landscape. The huge sand massif is constantly in motion and changes shape. On hot days, sand can be heated up to 60 ° C, therefore it is recommended to visit the park in strong closed shoes. The regions of black sand are considered to be the hottest, the dark color of which is explained by the presence of iron oxide.
The territory of the Great Sand Dune since 1932 was protected as a natural monument, in 2004 Bill Clinton signed the Decree, reorganizing it into a national park. The reserve of the Great Sand Dunes is interesting for unusual unification of different climatic zones: against the background of a sandy desert, there are snow-covered mountain peaks (about 3900 m high); Nearby you can find tundra, swamps, cool lakes and alpine meadows.
The Great Sand Dunes allowed hunting, though limited to a variety of rules. Despite the desert spaces, the park has a fairly rich flora and fauna. Here there are mountain lions, buffalo, black bears, snow sheep, moose, antelope, badgers, various kinds of birds, fish.
The friendly nature of the park is tempting for tourists. The huge dune space allows you to ride from the sandy mountains on sleigh, ski and snowboard. The reserve has many natural attractions, such as the 9-meter waterfall Tsapata Falls, the brook Medan Creek, constantly changing its course due to the climate, or the magnificent forests on the slopes of the mountains.
