Kostroma Oblast is a constituent entity of the Russian Federation and is part of the Central Federal District. The region was formed on August 13, 1944. The administrative center is the city of Kostroma. The population for 2019 is about 637 thousand people.

Kostroma region is an industrial and agricultural region. The basis of its economy is forestry and agriculture, electricity, engineering, textile and jewelry.
