100 Tenge 2021 30th anniversary of the closure of the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site.

On August 29, 1991, the Semilatinsky test site was closed, during the 40 years of operation of which the Soviet authorities conducted at least 468 nuclear weapons tests there. Residents of the settlements located near the landfill still suffer from diseases caused by radiation, the consequences of radiation affect their descendants. People call themselves "experimental material." RFE/RL correspondent visited places that served as sites for infamous experiments in Soviet times and talked to experts
