The Andean condor is considered a national Peru symbol, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia and Ecuador.

In the culture of the people of the Andes this bird plays very important role — similar to that that the white-headed sea eagle in North America has. In mythology of local Indian tribes the Andean condor was associated with the deity of the sun and was considered as the governor of the top world.
