John Quincy Adams - sixth in the list of US presidents. He was born in 1767 in the family of the second president, John Adams, this predetermined his political fate. With 17 years he accompanied his father to travel to Europe, where he received a wealth of experience, later becoming one of skilled diplomats.

After graduating from college at Harvard, John Quincy opened a law office in Boston, but since 1794 engaged in the activities of the embassy in The Hague, and then in Berlin. Since 1809 he worked as ambassador to Russia. His effort has been made Ghent Treaty of 1814, which was the transfer to the ambassadorial service to England.

In 1817, highly appreciated the ability to Adams, President James Monroe appointed him United States Secretary of State. It was 8 years of fruitful activity and participation in the creation of the Monroe Doctrine. In 1826, there were unusual presidential elections: they have not led to the victory of the available candidates, and according to the rules, the House of Representatives has made its choice in favor of Adams. This is the only case in the history of America's presidential election by the Congress government.

Adams Presidency can not be called successful, against him as an enemy of slavery, we have been set up Southern congressmen. Trying association of Latin American states has failed. The country has achieved success in trade agreements with many European and South American countries, but the introduction of customs tariffs jeopardize relations with England.

The next elections in 1828 have been lost, but the ex-president is not retired from politics. The rest of his life he worked in the House of Representatives and died during a meeting in February 1848. In American history, John Quincy Adams was one of the best specialists in the diplomatic service.
