Lyndon Baines Johnson - an American politician, who became president of the USA after the tragic departure of John F. Kennedy. He ruled the country from 1963 to 1969 and became the 36th in the list of heads of state. Being popular in the early 60's, it is one of the last in the ranking of presidents.

Lyndon Johnson was born in August 1908 in the Texas town of Stonewall. He taught a course of rhetoric and polemics in Houston. The way the policy began in 1931 with the office of the Secretary congressman. This was followed by membership in the House of Representatives and the Senate. In 1960 he ran for president, but lost in the second round of the younger Kennedy. Johnson has been entrusted to the post of vice-president.

Because of Kennedy's assassination in 1963, Johnson was automatically presidential powers, on the same day saying the oath of office on board the plane in Dallas. Following the priorities of his idol, Franklin Roosevelt, he proclaimed the social program "Great Society." State health insurance was introduced, eliminated racial segregation in the South. Johnson better than its predecessor managed to promote their projects in Congress, to the election of 1964, he has achieved widespread popularity and took the presidency for the second time.

Lyndon Johnson had a recognized political talent, has done much for the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, advocated cooperation with the USSR, but was the political downfall of the main events of his presidency - the war in Vietnam. Large-scale invasion and bloodshed did not lead to military successes. Economics and political reputation of the United States have been undermined.

At the next election Johnson did not put forward. Frustrated and tired, he returned to the family ranch in Texas, where he led a quiet life and wrote his memoirs. Having a third heart attack, he died in January 1973.
