The coin is 10 rubles, the Kursk in a series of City of Military Glory (WAN) released on June 30, 2011.
After the defeat of German forces at Stalingrad 1942-43gg and during the winter offensive of the Soviet troops the city of Kursk February 8, 1943 was freed from occupation. The Nazis, the company planning the year 1943 decided to take revenge and to seize the strategic initiative. They chose to attack deep to go to the location of their armies Kursk salient. Plan of Operation "Citadel" provided converging sudden blows from the south (from Belgorod) and the north (from the Eagle) in the general direction of Kursk to surround and annihilate the Soviet forces and develop an offensive deep into our territory.
The Battle of Kursk lasted for 50 days from July 5 to August 23, 1943. From 5 to 12 July, our troops were defending the Kursk salient. Troops of the Central Front (commander Rokossovsky) defended the northern part of the Kursk salient, and the troops of the Voronezh Front (Commander Vatutin) - south. In their rear was located the strategic reserve - the troops of the Steppe Front (Commander Konev). Coordinate the actions of the fronts Marshals Zhukov and Vasilevsky. July 12, our troops launched an offensive on the southern offensive led troops of the Voronezh Front, July 19, Voronezh and Steppe, and northern troops of the Bryansk (commander Popov) and Western (commander Sokolowski) fronts. August 5 were released Belgorod and Orel, August 18, our forces came to the defense line of the Germans to the east of Bryansk, August 23 released Kharkov.
In 2013, the 70th anniversary of the victory in the Battle of Kursk, one of the largest battles in the Great Patriotic War became a turning point that allowed to seize the strategic initiative, and to chase away the enemy from our land.

The honorary title of City of Military Glory (WAN) is assigned to the Decree of President of the Russian Federation "For courage, steadfastness and mass heroism the defenders of the city, in the struggle for freedom and independence of the Motherland."
