The coin is 10 rubles, Elec a series of City of Military Glory (WAN) released on October 3, 2011.
From 6 to 16 December 1941, during the counter-offensive of the Soviet army near Moscow was held Eletskaya operation. The purpose of the operation - to surround and destroy the enemy's forces near the town of Yelets and then strike at the rear of the troops of the German 2nd Panzer Army. The operation was prepared in a very short time, in severe winter conditions. For the German command, this operation was a complete surprise.
Our troops (the right wing of the Southwestern Front) advanced almost 100km, eliminating Eletskii ledge, surrounded and destroyed more than two German divisions, inflicted a serious defeat of the German 2nd Army. December 9 Elec city was liberated from the occupation.
October 8, 2007 the city of Yelets was awarded the title "City of Military Glory." The reverse of the coin depicts the coat of arms of the city of Yelets - Deer on a background of green grass and ate, coat of arms was adopted in 1781.
The honorary title of City of Military Glory (WAN) is assigned to the Decree of President of the Russian Federation "For courage, steadfastness and mass heroism the defenders of the city, in the struggle for freedom and independence of the Motherland."
