Dikusha (lat. Falcipennis falcipennis) is one of the rare and little-studied birds of the grouse family. It is on the verge of destruction. Included in the Red Book of IUCN, Red Book of the Russian Federation.
The peculiarity of Siberian Grouse is that it is not at all afraid of man, and this put the view on the brink of complete destruction. This is due to the rescue tactics - bated. Indigenous taiga residents have a tradition not to kill this bird when they meet, leaving it as a reserve for a weakened traveler who is unable to hunt other game. Fowl eating mostly needles, bitter.
Inhabits the Amur Region, the mountain taiga sites of Sikhote-Alin and on Sakhalin Island.
In the mountainous areas makes a slight vertical seasonal migrations. Flies rarely.
It feeds in winter almost exclusively with needles, in summer with moss seed bolls, lingonberry leaves and berries, sometimes with insects. Dikushi are polygamous, and the current male mates on its plot with any female. Marriage games - in May.
