The Vatican City 2 Euro 2018. European Year of Cultural Heritage.

December 7, 2017 at the European Cultural Forum in Milan, 2018 was officially declared the European Year of Cultural Heritage. It is designed to focus on the richness of cultural heritage, its role in shaping a sense of common identity and in the future of Europe.

The purpose of the Year is to raise awareness of the social and economic importance of Europe's cultural heritage: from archaeological sites to modern architecture, from medieval castles to folk traditions and crafts.

Obverse: standard image for 2 euro coins - the face value of the coin is placed on the background of the map of Europe.

Reverse: in the outer circle - the traditional 12 stars of the EU; in the inner circle depicts the sculptural composition "Laocoon and his sons", on the right is the year of issue "2018", the sign of the Roman Mint "R", at the bottom the name of the issuing country "CITTÀ DEL VATICANO".
