More info

25 cents (quarter) 2023 7th of Women of America - Edith Kanakaole.

25 cents 2023 6th quarter. Edith Kanaka'ole, or "Aunt Edith" as Hawaiians commonly call her, was a well-known expert on modern Hawaiian culture and language. In 1979, she received the highest state award "Excellence in Cultural Leadership". It is awarded to an individual who has made a significant contribution to Hawaii in the fields of culture, arts, and humanities.

Obverse: Center right depicts a portrait of President George Washington right (portrait originally drawn and sculpted by Laura Hardin Fraser. This was the recommended design for the 1932 Washington Bicentennial Quarter, but then-Treasury Secretary Mellon ultimately chose John Flanagan's design, facing left). At the top, the word LIBERTY (LIBERTY) is minted in a semicircle, on the right in several lines - IN GOD / WE / TRUST (WE BELIEVE IN GOD) and the letter of the mint.

Reverse: A portrait of Edith Kanakaole, whose hair blends with the Hawaiian landscape, symbolizing her contribution to the preservation of nature and local culture. The inscription "E hō mai ka 'ike" translates as "Giving Wisdom".
