James Madison - United States President, who became the fourth in the list of heads of state, one of the leading authors of the United States Constitution. He participated in the publication of one of the most important policy documents - "The Federalist." In 1812 - 1815 years of his presidency, the share dropped a difficult period of the Anglo-American war.

The future president was born in Virginia in 1751. He graduated from the College of New Jersey (now Princeton University), where he became a member of the Whig debating society, which began to form his political leanings. In 1785, thanks to his efforts as a member of the Assembly of the State of Virginia passed a law on religious freedom. Madison Jefferson supported the candidacy in the elections in 1796, after the victory of the latter became his secretary of state.

James Madison was elected to the Republican presidential twice: in 1808 and 1812 respectively. Tragic pages of this time became strained America's relations with France and England. The ban on cooperation with Britain because of its restrictive regulations has led to the outbreak of war. The armed conflict has taken its toll on the US economy, but confirmed its status as a sovereign state and has been called "War of Independence". Head of State Madison has become a model of courage and endurance in the difficult years, especially after the capture and burning of Washington by the enemy. The rise of patriotic sentiment and energetic measures the president led to the preponderance of forces on the US side. Peace was concluded in 1814.

At the end of the presidential term Madison resided in Montpelier, where he wrote and published articles on political and economic topics. He died there in July 1836.
