In 1918, after the failure in the Great War, the German-speaking Republic was formed, covering all the German-speaking lands.

It was changed by the winners of the First World War in the Saint-Germain Peace Treaty and became the Republic of Austria, which covered only half the population of Germany.

Austria was included in the Third Reich in 1938 and became a part of it. After the defeat of the Nazis, the Allied forces occupied Austria at the end of World War II until 1955, when the country was again completely independent, provided that it remained neutral.
