Jags City - the oldest city of Tver land, located at the confluence of the Volga River Vazuza. The first mention of Zubtsov in the Novgorod chronicles in 1216.

In 1238, the city was destroyed by the Tatars, in the period from 1245 on 1285 gg. many times attacked by the Lithuanians. Since 1247 was the Jags border strongholds as part of the Tver principality, in 1485 the town was annexed to Muscovy. By the end of the XVII century Jags retained value as a small defensive fortress.

At the beginning of the XVIII century began to develop in perforated crafts, family Kanatchikov appeared, cobblers, tailors, millers. After construction Vyshnevolotskaya Jags water system has become an important transit point in the waterway in St. Petersburg. At the end of the XIX century the city was a major center of Jags trade with flax. In Soviet times, Jags continued to develop as an agricultural center.
