Obverse: In the center of the coin there is a portrait of the writer Raul Brandão. To the left of the portrait in five lines his name and anniversary dates are minted: RAUL / BRAN- / DAO / 1867 / 2017. The name of the issuing state "PORTUGAL" is indicated in the semicircle at the bottom right along the edge of the inner ring. On the circle of the outer ring are 12 stars of the European Union

Reverse: In the center on the right is a map of Europe with a horizontal inscription "EURO". The map of Europe is depicted on top of six vertical lines symbolizing stability; at the ends of these lines there are stars (12 stars in all - one for each end of the line, symbolizing the 12 founding countries of the eurozone). The sign on the left side is the number symbol of the face value - 2. The sign of the designer Luc Luycx - the two crossing letters L (LL) resembling the figure 4 are located on the right in the center under the letter "O" of the word EURO).

Raoul Brandao was born on March 12, 1887 in a fishing family in Foz do Douro, Portugal, where he spent his youth. He studied at Porto College, but after a successful second year he entered the military academy. Later, he served in the military ministry, incidentally working as a journalist and publishing books. After his resignation in 1912 began the most fruitful period of his literary career, he wrote: memoirs, novels, plays, travel stories and books for children. He died on 05.12.1930 at the age of 63 in Lisbon, Portugal. The main content of his work is the life of the common people. Expressionism and mysticism are characteristic of his literary works in the description of death and loneliness, they also highlight realism in the narrative and the lyricism of the author's speech.
