The Great Patriotic War has been an ordeal for our country. Huge, well-armed, well-trained Hitler's army was like a skating rink, sweeping away everything in its path. The Nazis went to Moscow. During the Battle of Moscow, they were going to encircle and destroy the Soviet troops in the regions of Bryansk and Vyazma, and then outflank Moscow from the south and from the north and capture her. Vyazma were heavy, terrible fights. The Germans managed to surround our troops at Vyazma. In Vyazemskij boiler got about 700 thousand people. A few days surrounded by troops fought, trying to break through and out of the boiler, some parts of it was done, but not all, most of our troops to withdraw from the environment could not.

Vyazma was occupied. It was set up death camps for prisoners of war and civilians. Prisoners often were not given any food or water. In winter mortality in the camps was 300 people per day. People died of hunger, cold and injuries. The wounded were lying on the bare floor, not even straw, there was no medicine.

But Moscow has not been taken by the Nazis. Battle for Moscow ended with the victory of the Soviet troops. It began a counter-offensive in which our troops are trying to fight off the Germans Vyazma, Vyazma entire population hoped for it, but in March 1942 it was not possible. Vyazma was only released in March 1943. During the fighting, the city was completely destroyed. After his release, the locals had to work hard, clearing debris from his city, building, rebuilding homes and businesses. We worked both adults and children. They worked without sparing himself.

In 2009, Vyazma was awarded the title "City of Military Glory."
