The coin is 10 rubles, Arkhangelsk in a series of City of Military Glory (WAN) released on September 2, 2013.
The city of Arkhangelsk is located in the north of our country, on the banks of the Northern Dvina River and its delta islands, near the confluence of the Northern Dvina in the White Sea. It's a cold, harsh land. Arkhangelsk was the foundation during the reign of Ivan the Terrible, by order of the king, and named after the of the nearby monastery of Archangel Michael.
During the Great Patriotic War, many residents went to the front, and fought in the Marines, and in other parts of the Soviet Army. Remaining Arkhangelsk residents as they could help the front. Port took the convoys of ships carrying strategic cargo Lend-Lease, factory workers began to produce weapons, grenades, bombs and mines, mortars, snowmobiles and supplies. For the heroic work and courage of the residents of Arkhangelsk, the city was awarded the title "City of Military Glory."
The reverse of the coin depicts the coat of arms of Arkhangelsk - Archangel Michael with flaming sword, subverting the defeated devil. Flying angel represents the symbol of the Russian army, the sword symbolizes the victory of good over the forces of the enemy.
The honorary title of City of Military Glory (WAN) is assigned to the Decree of President of the Russian Federation "For courage, steadfastness and mass heroism the defenders of the city, in the struggle for freedom and independence of the Motherland."
