Gatchina - a city in Russia, administrative center of Gatchina municipal district of Leningrad region. Gatchina is an industrial, scientific, cultural and educational center in the Leningrad region. Located in State Art and Architectural Palace and Park Museum-Reserve "Gatchina", as well as the historical center of the city included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The predecessor of the city is considered the village Gatchina Hotchino. The city was renamed several times: from 1923 to 1929 was called Trotsky, and in 1929 the town was renamed Trotsk Krasnogvardeisk.
In April 2015 the Presidential Decree for the courage, steadfastness and mass heroism the defenders of the city in the fight for freedom and independence of the Fatherland Gatchina was awarded the honorary title of City of Military Glory.
The honorary title of City of Military Glory (DHW) is assigned to the Presidential Decree "For courage, steadfastness and mass heroism the defenders of the city, in the struggle for freedom and independence of the Fatherland."
