Transnistria. 1 ruble 2014. "Dubossary" from the SERIES "CITIES OF TRANSNISTRIA"
Dubossary is a city of Transnistria located on the left bank of the river.
The city has a rich history from the Middle Ages to our days. The boundaries were reshaped several times.
During Catherine's second Turkish city of Tombasar was renamed in Dubossary name and was fixed.
The first mention of the city dates back to 1260-1360.
It is noteworthy that in 1484 the city was under the rule of the Crimean Tatars. After, the city was captured by the Turks.
The city of Dubossary twice burnt down to 1758 and 1768.
The city, because of the activities aimed at trade and agriculture, was deprived of the status of the city in the 1920s.
At the beginning of World War II, the city was captured by German troops in July 1941. Since there were many Jews living on the territory, 60% managed to leave the rest were subjected to repression.
In 1956, Dubossary again receives the status of the city after the construction of the Dubossary HPP.
