Transnistria. 1 ruble 2014. "Grigoriopol" from the SERIES "CITIES OF TRANSNISTRIA"
Grigoriopol is the administrative center of the Grigoriopol district in Transnistria. It is located 45 km north-west of Tiraspol.
Grigoriopol was founded in 1792 by the Decree of Catherine II and inhabited by Armenian settlers. There are documents evidencing two versions, in honor of whom the city was named. According to one order, Prince Potemkin ordered to name the new city of Armenians Grigoriopol "in honor of his angel", and according to another order "ordered to make of their town in the name of St. Gregory the Illuminator of all Armenia".
Obverse: in the center - an image of the State Emblem of the Pridnestrovskaia Moldavskaia Respublika; on a circle - inscriptions: at the top - "TRANSNISTRIAN REPUBLICAN BANK", at the bottom - "1 РУБЛЬ"; in the lower part under the coat of arms - "2014".
Reverse: in the center - the image of the Ascension Cathedral, at the top - the year of foundation of the city - 1792.
