Lithuania 1.5 euro 2019. Smelt fishing
The Bank of Lithuania issued a coin, the Smelt Fishing, which is part of the “Nature of Lithuania” series.
The coin is dedicated to the old tradition of smelt fishing using wooden devices.
For centuries, Lithuanian fishermen lowered one part of the board into an ice-hole, and knocked rhythmically on the serving part of it with wooden hammers. This noise attracted fish, which swam in a circle and fell into the nets.
Reverse: in the center the result of fishing is depicted - the net into which smelt fell
“STINT ŽVEJYBA VILIOJANT” (smelt fishing) at the top
Bottom right and left signs of the Lithuanian Mint and the author of the coin project
Obverse: in the center the moment of fishing itself is depicted, when the fisherman rhythmically knocks on the part of the board protruding from the hole.
on the right above the coat of arms of Lithuania - rider Vitis
