The coin is 10 rubles, Pskov in a series of City of Military Glory (WAN) released on July 1, 2013.

Pskov - a very ancient city, one of the oldest cities in Russia. Pskov was first mentioned in chronicles in 903. In ancient times, Pskov was considered a very large city, it was not only a commercial city, but also the largest center of the defense of the state. Pskov fortress walls made it impregnable to any enemy. Residents of the city with the most ancient times, used to live on the border and protect our state.

When the Great Patriotic War, first inhabitants of Pskov hosted refugees from Belarus, and believed that the enemy will stop. But soon began bombing the town after heavy fighting in July 1941, Pskov was taken by the Nazis. For three years the city was under occupation. In the suburbs of Pskov was organized concentration camp, where was tortured for more than 65 thousand people, prisoners of war and civilians of the city. The remaining were forced to work as slaves in hard work. In the first year of the occupation of the inhabitants of the Pskov land organized guerrilla groups, they did not surrender to the enemy, they fought as best they could. In July 1944, Pskov was liberated by Soviet troops and the restoration of the ruined city by the Nazis. The inhabitants themselves rebuilt their city, the country was not possible to allocate money for the restoration of Pskov, as long as the war ended.

For courage and heroism in December 2009, the city of Pskov was awarded the honorary title of "City of Military Glory."

The reverse of the coin depicts the coat of arms of the ancient Pskov - leopard, a symbol of bravery and courage, and coming out on top of the clouds of God's right hand, symbolizing the divine protection of the city.

The honorary title of City of Military Glory (WAN) is assigned to the Decree of President of the Russian Federation "For courage, steadfastness and mass heroism the defenders of the city, in the struggle for freedom and independence of the Motherland."
