The coin is 10 rubles, Tver series of City of Military Glory (WAN) released on September 5, 2014.
Ancient Tver - a city on the Volga River, was first mentioned in chronicles in 1135. In 1931, Tver was renamed Kalinin, after the Soviet statesman, a native of the Tver province. Under the name of Kalinin city and entered the annals of the Great Patriotic War.
The German Command paid a lot of attention to Kalinin, because this city was at the crossroads of the October Railway, the Volga River, which had access to the channel Volga-Moscow and Moscow-Leningrad highway. City would be very convenient to use as a springboard for an attack on Moscow from the north.
Kalinin was subjected to artillery bombardment, attacks by enemy aircraft. The city was burning. Residents Kalinin organized militias. For courage and heroism in the defense of Kalinin city from the Nazis in November 2010 it was awarded the title "City of Military Glory."
The reverse of the coin features the coat of arms of the city of Tver - a golden chair with a crown - a symbol of the political significance of the Tver principality. In Russia it is the first time the Tver prince began to call himself king.
The honorary title of City of Military Glory (WAN) is assigned to the Decree of President of the Russian Federation "For courage, steadfastness and mass heroism the defenders of the city, in the struggle for freedom and independence of the Motherland."
