A small Crimean town of Feodosia during the Great Patriotic War was twice occupied by German troops. About 300 prisoners of war, more than 8 thousand civilians were shot, about 3 thousand were taken to slavery in Germany. In the city, industrial enterprises were destroyed and looted, and apartment buildings were destroyed.

Theodosius was bombed. In order to detain an enemy that is tearing forward, defensive lines were built around the city, militia was created. When it became clear that the Crimea could not be kept, the formation of partisan detachments for underground work began, the evacuation of the population and museum valuables. When the fascists entered the city, mass executions of civilians began.

Feodosia succeeded in discouraging the enemy at the turn of 1941-1942, during the Kerch-Feodosia operation. In Feodosia was landed landing, delivered weapons, ammunition, even tanks. For several months our soldiers heroically held the front, did not surrender to Theodosius the enemy. But in May 1942, Hitler's troops entered the city for the second time.

Only 2 years later, in the spring of 1944, during the Crimean offensive operation, Theodosius was liberated for the second time from the fascists, this time for good. April 13, 1944 in honor of the liberation of Theodosius in Moscow was a festive salute. In Feodosia, the picture gallery of Aivazovsky returned, which was evacuated in 1941 to Yerevan. Immediately after liberation began the restoration of the city, factories, factories, the port, the streets were cleared of the ruins. All the inhabitants of the city took part in this, even children and women housewives. The city rose from the ruins and became even more beautiful than before.

For the heroism shown by the defenders of Theodosia, on April 6, 2015 the city was awarded the honorary title of the City of Military Glory.

Honorary title of the city of military glory (GVS) is appropriated by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation "For courage, fortitude and mass heroism shown by city defenders in the struggle for freedom and independence of the Fatherland".
