Transnistria. 1 ruble 2014. "Slobodzeya" from the SERIES "CITIES OF TRANSNISTRIA"
Slobodzeya is a city in the Pridnestrovskaia Moldavskaia Respublika on the left bank of the Dniester River, 12 km southeast of Tiraspol.
The name of the city comes from the Moldovan "slobozia" (Russian "sloboda"). The founding of Slobodzeye is attributed to the end of the XVII - the beginning of the XVIII centuries. In 1768, during the Russo-Turkish war, the village of Slobodzeya, like other surrounding villages on the left bank, was burned and looted. In 1791 the village was the center of the board of the Black Sea Cossack Army. At that time Slobodzeya was an earthen fortress with a wooden cathedral inside, as well as an arsenal and warehouses. In 1792, the Mikhailovsky stone church was built in Slobodzie. In 1793 in the village there were 134 households with a male population - 421, women - 349. In 1809, a new Mikhailovskaya church was built (reconstructed and now operating).
By 1863, one of the largest settlements of the Tiraspol county of Kherson province: 648 households, five thousand inhabitants (Moldovans and Great Russians), two Orthodox churches, a school, a biannual bazaar, benches, a volost auxiliary fund, founded in 1848.
The Presidium of the Supreme Council of the MSSR on January 28, 1972, by its decision, united the Sloboziai village councils, the Moldavian part and the Slobodzeya, the Russian part into one village of Slobodzeya and classified it as a city-type settlement.
June 12, 2002 by the decision of the Supreme Council of the PMR Slobodzeya became a city.
