Elizabeth Mary Tol Chief is one of the so-called. "Five Moons", the first American prima ballerina, the first representative of the Indians - ballerina. She is considered to have revolutionized ballet. The elder sister of the ballerina Marjorie Tallchief, the third wife of George Balanchine. There are several ballerina statues in Oklahoma. She became a member of the US National Women's Hall of Fame and received the National Medal for her contributions to the arts. In 1996, Tallchief received a Kennedy Center Honor. Her life has been the subject of several documentaries and biographies.

Obverse: The coin features a portrait of President George Washington right at the center (portrait originally drawn and sculpted by Laura Gardin Frazier.
