On the day of the 200th anniversary of the birth of 16th US President Abraham Lincoln, he introduced a new one-cent coin of a new series dedicated to various stages of Lincoln's life - from birth to the presidency. The period of the presidency. The unfinished Capitol is depicted. At the insistence of Lincoln, who wanted to emphasize the unity of the nation, the Capitol was being built during the Civil War of the North and the South. Design prepared by engraver Susan Gamble and sculptor Joseph Menn.
