Klin is a city in the Moscow region, the administrative center of the city district of Klin. The first mention in written sources about a city called Klin refers to 1317. This date is the founding date of the city.
In the XII – XIII centuries, the territory of the Klinsky Territory was part of the Vladimir-Suzdal Principality. At the beginning of the XIII century, Prince Vladimir Yuri Vsevolodovich, trying to secure the borders of his vast principality, built a number of fortified cities. One of these fortresses arose on the banks of the Sestra River and for several centuries was an important strategic point on the way from Moscow to Veliky Novgorod.
The advantageous position on the busy trade routes determined the fate of the city, making it an apple of discord for the Russian princes. In the struggle between the Moscow and Tver principalities, Klin, who was on the way from Moscow to Tver, often became the site of bloody clashes. After the victory of the Moscow principality, the city at the end of the 15th century passed to Moscow.
Modern Klin is a large economic center of the Northern Moscow Region. According to the results of the last 7 years, it is recognized as one of the most dynamically developing regions of the Moscow Region in terms of economic, social and cultural indicators.
