Estonia. 2 euro 2022. 150 years of the Estonian Literary Society.
The Society of Estonian Writers (or the Estonian Literary Society) was founded in 1872 in Viljandi to popularize Estonian literature and raise the cultural level of the Estonian people. This organization was a very influential association of intelligentsia and functioned at the end of the 19th century. The society included prominent writers, poets, artists, etc. The main goal of the club was the promotion and development of the Estonian language, the creation of new national works. Members of the society also collected various artifacts, important historical documents, and coins. The organization often hosted conferences and amassed a large library.
Reverse: the map of Europe is located on the right side. There are six vertical lines on the background of the map. At the ends of these lines there are 12 stars. To the left of the card there is a numerical designation of the face value. On the card itself there is a horizontal inscription "EURO".
Obverse: an open book is depicted, on the page of which a quote from the first leader of the Estonian Literary Society Jakob Hurt is written: “KUI ME EI SAA SUUREKS RAHVAARVULT, PEAME SAAMA SUUREKS VAIMULT” (“IF WE CANNOT BE A GREAT NATION IN NUMBERS, WE MUST BE GREAT IN SPIRIT”) "). On the top, along the edge of the disc, there is an engraved inscription: “150 EESTI KIRJAMEESTE SELTS” (“150TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ESTONIAN LITERATURAL SOCIETY”). The dates "2022" and "1872" complete the design. The 12 stars of the flag of the European Union are located around the outer ring.
