The ship Endeavor was created in the city of Whitby, near Plymouth, and was completely ready and launched in 1764. It was thought that the ship would transport coal near the Plymouth shores, but in 1768 it was bought by the Admiralty, re-equipped and put into the fleet. The interesting fact is that James Cook himself was born in the same county where the ship was built, it turns out that both the first ship of Cook and James himself began their maritime career from one place.

Bark "Endeavor" was a three-masted sailing vessel with straight sails to the fore and mainmast and an oblique sail on the mizzen mast, just like all ships of its class. Armament consisted of 22 guns, half of which were fixed on board, the so-called gun carriages. Displacement of the ship reached approximately 368 tons, and length and width of 32 meters and 9 meters, respectively. As the navigator himself noted, the ship had excellent seaworthiness, it was very easy to control, and the average speed exceeded 7 knots.

Endeavor was bought in a rather bad condition, it had to be thoroughly repaired, and a longboat (for transporting water and food to the ship) and a boat (for floating the captain and his people ashore) were built specially for him. The ship did not have copper plating, which allowed the shipworms to calmly do their work.

After the expedition, the fate of Endeavor is unknown. Some say that it was sold to a French merchant who ferried the ship to North America, according to others, the ship ended its existence on the Thames. But despite the mystery of his post-expedition life, "Endeavor" is a famous sailboat, in honor of it was named the command module of the spacecraft Apollo-15.
