The coin is 10 rubles, Dmitrov in a series of City of Military Glory (WAN) released on November 1, 2012.
Dmitrov is located in the Moscow region, 65 km north of Moscow, is the port on the Moscow Canal. The canal was built in the 1932-1938's division of the Gulag, using prison labor. The canal was laid directly on the city territory.
The Great Patriotic War. German blitzkrieg plan "Barbarossa" provided for the capture of Moscow within three months from the beginning of the war in time to capture the city before the cold weather. The enemy came to Moscow, the fighting was at a distance of 80-100 km from the capital. The Nazis intended to outflank Moscow from the south and north. From the north on November 26-27, 1941, the Germans managed to get to the channel name of Moscow (Moscow-Volga) in the region and Dmitrov Yakhroma and take Krasnaya Polyana (32 km from the Moscow Kremlin). But their further advancement prevent discharge of water from the Istra and Ivankovskoye reservoirs and reservoirs of the Moscow Canal. The floodgate reservoirs were blown up and formed a water flow of 2.5 m in height. December 2, 1941 the forces of the 1st Shock and 20th armies repulsed all the attacks of the Nazis in the Dmitrov district, and December 3-5, went on the offensive. By 11 December all the Dmitrov region was liberated from the German invaders. In 2008 Dmitrov was awarded the honorary title of City of Military Glory.
The reverse of the coin features the coat of arms of the town of Dmitrov, approved in 1991, based on the ancient coat of arms in 1781.
The honorary title of City of Military Glory (WAN) is assigned to the Decree of President of the Russian Federation "For courage, steadfastness and mass heroism the defenders of the city, in the struggle for freedom and independence of the Motherland."
