Russian sturgeon (Acipenser guldenstadti Brandt) - This species, constituting the exclusive belonging of the Russian fauna, in general terms represents a significant resemblance to the German sturgeon, to which it previously belonged, but nevertheless easily differs from it with its shorter and blunt nose and wider mouth, separately standing lateral shitikov and rudimentary lower lip. In growth, our sturgeon, apparently, is significantly inferior to the German and now rarely reaches more than 5 pounds. However, in the old days in the Urals, and according to Krivoshapkin, and in the Yenisei, occasionally they were found in 7-8 pounds weighing up to 5 arshin length; The average weight of this fish (in the Urals) is 25-30 f. In previous years, sturgeon reached even greater magnitude.

Sturgeon is found in almost all major Russian and Siberian rivers. In the northern rivers of European Russia, despite its abundance in the Ob and the Yenisei, it is, however, very rare and it comes by chance. Danilevsky, for example, says that since Ust-Tsylma, like a great wonder, the Ob sturgeon was caught. This Ob, or rather, Siberian, sturgeon has some differences from the present sturgeon of the Caspian and Black Sea basins and reaches a very large size (13 pounds).
