Transnistria. 1 ruble 2019. Water chestnut (chillim).
Water chestnut (chilim) - a plant that grows in lakes and slowly flowing rivers of Eurasia and Africa, grows up to 5 m in length. The plant has a characteristic fruit that looks like a bull’s head, with one large starchy seed. For the sake of this seed, the plant has been cultivated in China for at least three thousand years. Chilli seed is boiled and used as a light snack.
It is found in Russia in the European part, in the south of Western Siberia, in the Far East. In the Altai Territory it is found in several lakes (for example, in Kolyvan Lake). The distribution area varies with annual temperature fluctuations. Everywhere is relatively rare. Due to commercial harvesting, complete extinction is possible.
Prefers silty soils of slowly flowing or standing reservoirs. Often forms continuous thickets. Sensitive to water composition, light exposure and temperature. Lives only in the wild. Amateur attempts to keep and grow chilli in an aquarium, as a rule, fail.
Obverse: the image of the State Emblem of the Transnistrian Moldavian Republic is located, under which the face value is indicated - “1 RUBLE”. Along the edge of the coin are inscriptions separated by dots: at the top is the “TRANSNISTRIAN REPUBLICAN BANK”, at the bottom is “2019”.
Reverse: In the center - a stylized image of a water nut (chilim), above - the inscription "RED BOOK OF TRANSNISTRIA"; below - the inscription "WATER NUT - TRAPA NATANS".
