1 cent of 2016. USA Shield
According to the presidential monetary act in 2010, one-cent coins were to contain "an image symbolizing the preservation of Lincoln USA as a single and unified state". On April 16, 2009, the Fine Arts Commission proposed a design containing 13 bundles of wheat tied together as a symbol of American unity. The variant was rejected, since it resembled the German coins of the 1920s. As a result, the design was adopted, which is on modern coins. New coins were officially introduced and put into circulation next to the presidential library in Lincoln's hometown of Springfield on February 11, 2010.
Obverse: depicts Lincoln's portrait to the right. Inscriptions: IN GOD WE TRUST / LIBERTY / 2016 / D / VDB.
Reverse: in the center there is a shield with 13 vertical stripes, symbolizing state and national unity. Inscriptions: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA / E PLURIBUS UNUM / ONE CENT / LB / JFM.
