Eleven1 Dollar from the series American Innovations. Bridge tunnel across the Chesapeake Bay. (Virginia). 2021
The eleventh US $1 Innovation coin of this series, representing Virginia, the Chesapeake Bay Tunnel Bridge.
$1 is dedicated to the Chesapeake Bay Tunnel Bridge, a system of six bridges, two tunnels, and six man-made islands linking part of the state of Virginia to the state's east coast on the Delmarva Peninsula.
The Chesapeake Bay Tunnel Bridge is a link between Norfolk and Cape Charles in the Atlantic Ocean, Virginia, in the eastern United States. The total length of the bridge-tunnel of ChiPik Bay is 26 kilometers, and the width of the roadway on which vehicles move is slightly less than 9 meters. One of the main difficulties that this large infrastructure has had to face is that it is built at a great depth.
Obverse: In the center is the Statue of Liberty in profile, to the left of which is the official US motto "IN GOD WE TRUST", to the right - the face value of the coin "1 dollar" ("$1"). At the bottom of the obverse are the designer's initials "JK" and "PH".
Reverse: a cross-sectional view of the Chesapeake Bay bridge-tunnel. This was done in order to evaluate the ingenuity and design complexity of this engineering structure. The engraver-sculptor is John P. McGraw and the designer is Matt Swaim. Their initials are present on the reverse side of the coin at the bottom.
Edge: Smooth with inscription (* In God We Trust * E Pluribus Unum * year of minting and mint stamp).
