Gilbert Islands 1 dollar 2015 Golden hind.

The second ship, after the Magellanic ship "Victoria", which made a round-the-world trip. The ship was built on the stocks of the Aldeburg shipyard, sailing arms consisted of three masts, of which the first two (the fok and the grotto) carried 2 tiers of straight sails, and the third (bison) was equipped with a skewed Latin sail. The artillery armament consisted of 22 small-caliber guns. In length, the galleon slightly fell short of 40 meters, 6.5 meters wide, and the total displacement did not exceed 150 tons.
The captain of the ship was the same famous person as the ship itself - Francis Drake, nicknamed Iron Pirate. In 1577 he equipped five ships, among which the largest was the Galleon Pelican and, with the blessing of Queen Elizabeth I, went to the shores of South America to rob Spanish ships stuffed with jewels.
After sailing, Drake renamed his flagship "Pelican" in "Golden hind" (in translation means "Golden doe"). One version says that in this way he wanted to emphasize the excellent seaworthiness of the galleon. Another version says that Drake made a kind of curtsy in the direction of his patron Lord Hatton, whose family coat of arms depicted a deer. But most likely, both of these options are appropriate.

The first adventure in swimming turned out to be the disintegration of a squadron: in the Pacific Ocean, the ships got into the strongest storm, as a result of which one ship "Marygold" sank, and the remaining three disappeared from the flagship and were soon lost. Later it became known that they were able to get to England. The ship Drake carried far to the south, where it was discovered that Tierra del Fuego is just an island to the south of which the strait, and subsequently named after its discoverer.
For 3 years, the team Drake robbed absolutely everything that came across her on the road, and September 26, 1580, to the sides of a ship laden with gold, returned to the port of Plymouth. Half of the stolen captain ordered to give the queen, for which he was knighted right on his ship.

After his robbery around the world, "Golden hind" was installed in a dry dock to visit it by all comers. In 1662, it was dismantled, as the hull of the ship was badly damaged, and already in 1973, according to archival drawings, a new "Golden fallow" was built. She repeated the route of her predecessor, and since 1996 she has been in London as a museum.
