The thirteenth US $1 Innovation coin of this series, representing North Carolina, First State University.

The coin is dedicated to the University of Chapel Hill. The higher educational institution was opened back in 1795. Then it was the first institution that gave a degree in the country at the end of the 18th century.

Obverse: In the center is the Statue of Liberty in profile, to the left of which is the official US motto "IN GOD WE TRUST", to the right - the face value of the coin "1 dollar" ("$1"). At the bottom of the obverse are the designer's initials "JK" and "PH".

Reverse: A close-up of a stack of three textbooks, where the spine of the central book reads "First State University". Above the books is a knowledge lamp, and several olive branches curve around the edge of the design.

Edge: Smooth with inscription (* In God We Trust * E Pluribus Unum * year of minting and mint stamp).
