Twelfth coin 1 sol 2023 from the series 200 years of Independence - José Manuel Valdez.

The Central Reserve Bank of Peru has introduced into circulation the current coin 1 Sol José Manuel Valdez from the “200 Years of Independence” series.

José Manuel Valdez (1767 – July 29, 1843) was a Peruvian physician, poet, philosopher, Latinist and parliamentarian. He eventually became a prominent figure in Lima society in the early days of the Republic of Peru. He was born a mulatto with both Native American and African blood in his veins. Because of his dark skin color, he fought against racist legislation that prevented Valdez from continuing his primary education (which he received as a reward from the wealthy Spanish family for which her mother worked) into her teens. In 1801, he stunned the Peruvians by declaring that cancer was not contagious. Despite initial criticism, the confirmation of his discovery in Europe earned him great respect that would otherwise have been impossible to achieve given his racial status.
Reverse: In the central part, Jose Manuel Valdez is depicted in an octagon. On the left it is written vertically: "BICENTENARIO 1821 - 2021". The name in Spanish is engraved at the top - “JOSÉ MANUEL VALDÉS”. In the lower part in the center is the denomination of the coin - “1 SOL” and the logo of the coin program - the emblem of the 200th anniversary of the independence of Peru. To the right of the image of José Manuel Valdez is a geometric design of vertical lines with a mint mark.

Obverse: in the center of the coin is the coat of arms of Peru, surrounded by the words “BANCO CENTRAL DE RESERVA DEL PERÚ”, year of issue 2023.
