USA 1 Sacagawea Dollar (Indian) 2023 Maria Tallchief and the American Indians in ballet.

Sacagawea Series 15 Commemorative $1 2023 Commemorative Coin - dedicated to Maria Tallchief, considered America's first major Native American prima ballerina.

Obverse: Child-holding portrait of Sacagawea, a Shoshone girl who helped the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Top: Liberty, left: In God We Trust, right: year of issue and mint mark.

Reverse: In the center in a ballet pose is depicted Maria Tolchief - the first US prima ballerina of Indian origin. In addition to Tallchief, four other Oklahoma American Indian ballerinas achieved international recognition in the 20th century, including her younger sister Marjorie Tallchief, Yvonne Chouteau, Rosella Hightower, and Mocelyn Larkin. Hailed as the Five Moons, their legacy of achievement and integration continues to influence ballet today. A reference to the Five Moons is featured in the moon motif, and the four dancers in the background symbolize both Tallchief's contemporaries, the Native American dancers, and the generations of dancers they inspired. The name of the ballerina and the denomination of the coin are placed in three lines on the left center: "MARIA / TALLCHIEF / $ 1". At the bottom, the name of the coin is indicated in a semicircle: "AMERICAN INDIANS IN BALLET". The name of the issuing country is minted at the top in a semicircle around the edge of the coin: "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA".

Edge: Smooth with inscription (* In God We Trust * E Pluribus Unum * year of minting and mint stamp).
